The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will no longer answer to litigations over the conduct of the Adamawa state gubernatorial polls

This development comes after the Federal High Court in Abuja struck out the suit against INEC filed by Sen Aisha Dahiru, APC Guber flagbearer

On Wednesday, April 26, Dahiru’s attorney prayed to the court to discontinue the suit, but Justice Iyang Ekwo instead dismissed the case

Justice Iyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed the suit filed by Senator Aisha ‘Binan’ Dahiru, the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) over the just-concluded Adamawa gubernatorial polls.

As reported by The Nation, the suit was filed against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seeking a review of the election results announced by the electoral, which declared Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of the Peoples Democratic Party winner of the election.

After its review, the suit also urged INEC to reverse its initial declaration and declare Binani the rightful winner of the highly controversial governorship polls.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, April 26, the legal counsel to Binani asked the court to discontinue the case and strike it out, The Cable reported.

Justice Ekwo, on the other hand, resorted to dismissing the case rather than striking it out as earlier requested by the legal counsel of the APC flagbearer.

At the controversial gubernatorial polls in Adamawa state, the incumbent Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, emerged victorious after a prolonged battle at the poll.

According to the final results announced by Mohammed Mele, the INEC Returning Officer in the state, Governor Fintiri polled 430,861 votes while Senator Dahiru of the APC candidate scored 398,788 votes.

This victory means Governor Fintiri will resume the Adamawa State House for his second stint as the number one administrator in the state.
