The modern manga industry brings new content to millions of readers around the world each and every week; however, that intense release schedule is putting incredible strain on the authors and illustrators behind our favorite series.

Over the past few years, concerns within the global community for the health and well-being of mangaka have continued to become a major issue and unfortunately, those concerns may have just expanded once again.

My Hero Academia manga takes sudden break

My Hero Academia chapter 390 was originally scheduled to launch around the world on Sunday, May 28; however, it has just been reported that the manga will be entering a sudden hiatus period this week.

In a message from the Weekly Shonen Jump editorial department, shared by the DabisPoleDance Twitter page, the upcoming delay was revealed to be due to production issues.

More specifically, various changes to the new chapter were set to be addressed but “due to printing processes, the necessary corrections could not be made in time.”

“Due to production circumstances, there will be a hiatus in the publication of My Hero Academia for the upcoming issue. To all the readers who have been eagerly anticipating it, I deeply apologize for the inconvenience and disappointment. Furthermore, although My Hero Academia is listed in this issue’s table of contents, due to printing processes, the necessary corrections could not be made in time.”

Whilst the majority of fans understand that this is an unfortunate byproduct of working to a weekly release schedule in the already-stretched-thin manga industry, fans are also sharing their concern for mangaka Kohei Horikoshi.

Horikoshi has been forced to take multiple breaks over recent months due to health issues, with the sentiment from My Hero Academia’s global community largely focused on the health and well-being of the iconic author.

Popular fan page ‘RukasuMHA’ tweeted in response to the sudden hiatus, “There’s no way in hell the editor can’t confirm the author will need to take a break SIX TIMES in 6 months. And now they’re not even saying it’s for health issues anymore, it seems like they’re trying to make the situation look better than it actually is.”
